STRETCH the Snappi fastener before its first use. The stretching triggers the 'memory' of the Snappi to return to its original size and in so doing, pulls the diaper together to the middle to allow for a snug fit. This is essential for the Snappi to work properly. This is done by holding the Snappi in the center with one hand and close to the end of the leg (not by the rings) with the other hand and s-t-r-e-t-c-h a few times (10 or so). As you do this you should feel how the material 'softens' or gets more elastic. Follow this stretching procedure with each leg. The Snappi is then ready to go!
Make sure that your Snappi is ATTACHED SECURELY. It is important that the Snappi 'leg' being attached be stretched as far as possible before hooking it into the diaper. In other words:
Hook left,
s-t-r-e-t-c-h and hook right,
s-t-r-e-t-c-h down and hook center so as to form a 'Y' shape.
NOTE: Snappi's WORK BEST with cotton prefolds (Chinese or DSQ), terry cloth diapers and other cloth diapers with a loose enough weave for the Snappi to hook into. They do not work well with tightly woven diapers such as flannel diapers.
WARNING:
ALWAYS use a cover when using a Snappi fastener on your baby's diaper.
Keep out of children's reach when not in use!
Do not use your Snappi for longer than 6 months.
Do not leave your Snappi lying in the sun as it is not UV resistant and can reduce the effectiveness of the Snappi.
CARE: Clean your Snappi in hot soapy water. Do not launder them with diapers in the washer as this may weaken the grip attachment.
CAUTION: Any tear in the Snappi can lead to separation of a piece, presenting a possible choking hazard. Inspect your Snappi before each use and discontinue using immediately if there is any sign of cracking, tearing, breakage or wear of the teeth or any other parts. Do not cut your Snappi as this may cause tearing.
Happy Heinys Heiny Huggers(tm) - Sherpa Fitted Diapers Care Instructions
Wash new diapers before use. You may notice that they produce a bit of lint in the beginning, this is normal for Sherpa.
Cold rinse
Warm-hot wash
Same detergents as the HH
No chlorine, no bleach, no fabric softners.
May be dried on high heat.
Occasionally you may notice that your Sherpa diapers are not as soft after a few months of use as they were when new. All you need to do is rinse the diapers a few times in the wash, no detergent but add some vinegar to the rinsing. This will help to restore the softness to your sherpa diaper.
Before use: Wash/dry fleece and unbleached diapers on hot/high several times to reach initial absorbency. Wash only about a dozen or so at a time for the initial pre-washes. The fabric will lint a bit in these early washes. Wash and dry bright or dark fabrics on hot/high several times before mixing with lighter colored diapers.
Depending on your water source and temperature, you may need fewer or additional washings, so always test colorfastness before mixing wet diapers of varying colors (e.g., toss in a white rag during a hot wash and dry cycle or two).
Regular washing routine: There are many opinions about diaper washing, and many people have developed additional steps and routines based on their individual needs. Our advice is to start simple and adjust only if necessary for your baby or water-type.
Toss wet or dirty diapers into a dry pail; wash every 2-3 days.
An optional cold-water pre-rinse helps prevent stains and odor.
Use hot water and everyday detergent, unless that detergent contains fabric softeners (a no-no for diapers).
Veggie-based soap helps keep fabric soft, although its effectiveness depends on the hardness of your water. In any water, soap can coat fabric, so consider alternating soap and detergent to avoid decreased absorbency over time.
No chlorine bleach. Nasty stuff, bleach.
No fabric softeners, which coat fabric and reduce absorbency.
Some babies require fragrance- or enzyme-free detergents; most don't.
An occasional sunning of clean, wet diapers will go a long way to freshen them and reduce or eliminate staining.
Notes:
How many diapers to wash at a time depends on your washer, your washing routine, your philosophy, and your diapers. As a general rule of thumb, wash no more than 18 fitted diapers or 24 prefolds at a time. You may be able to do more or less, so do a little experimenting to find what works best for you and your washer.
Like towels and tee-shirts, diapers become more absorbent over time. This is especially true for cotton fleece and unbleached fabrics, which requires some initial "roughing up" in the washing machine.
Most detergents suggest using an obscene amount of detergent. Use enough to clean, but not so much that it leaves residue. If you see suds during a second rinse or a wash with no detergent, you're using too much detergent. Detergent residue attracts and retains soil and odor.
Baby BeeHinds Fitted Nappies are One Size Fits Most... they are designed to fit the average sized bub right though from birth to toilet training.
Adjusting the nappy sizing.....
Newborn
Small / Medium
Medium / Large
Newborn - Snap the small insert into the back of the nappy. Lay baby on the nappy, and bring the nappy up in between baby's legs. Fold the front of the nappy over to expose 4 snap sockets. Wrap the wings of the nappy around baby's tummy and snap into the exposed snap sockets. Use the crossover snaps on the wings for a smaller fit. Put cover on over nappy for ultimate leak protection. Tip: tuck the nappy's leg frills in for even better protection against leaks.
Small / Medium - Snap the small insert into the back of the nappy. Lay baby on the nappy, and bring the nappy up in between baby's legs. Fold the front of the nappy over to expose 4 snap sockets, though on this setting, you wouldn't fold it over as far as you would for the newborn setting. Wrap the wings of the nappy around baby's tummy and snap into the exposed snap sockets. Put cover on over nappy for ultimate leak protection. Tip: for more absorbency, use the longer insert instead of the smaller insert.
Medium / Large - Snap the small inset into the back of the nappy and the long insert into the middle two snap sockets at the front inner of the nappy. Fold the long insert to suit baby's needs (many people like to fold into thirds at the front of the nappy). Lay baby on the nappy, and bring the nappy up in between baby's legs, making sure that the layers of the long insert are positioned where needed. Wrap the wings of the nappy around baby's tummy and snap into the exposed snap sockets. Put cover on over nappy for ultimate leak protection. Tip: for a trimmer nappy, use one insert. For more absorbency use both inserts. For overnight, if you baby is a heavy wetter you might like to use an overnight booster.
TIPS!
If baby requires extra absorbency overnight, an overnight booster positioned between the nappy and cover makes a world of difference and enables you confidence for a night nappy set up.
We recommend alternating between 2 covers during the day, letting one air whilst the other is in use, and then swapping them at the next change. This will ensure your covers stay performing at their best!
If you prefer a stay dry lining in your nappies, we recommend using microfleece liners, which are fully reusable- just wash in with your nappies. Microfleece is a synthetic fabric though, therefore the natural fibres of the nappy wouldn't be against baby's skin if using liners. Liners are a personal preference. Some parents use them, some parents don't. It's up to you!
How to Care for and Use your Happy Heinys Pocket Diapers
Wash and Care
Store wet and soiled diapers in a dry pail. There is no need to rinse soiled diapers prior to washing. The solid waste of older babies can be removed by gently shaking the diaper over a toilet.
Remove inserts from pocket prior to washing. Then:
Cold Soak
Wash on hot with slightly less than 1/4 cup of detergent
Rinse well to ensure all detergent is removed from diapers.
Drying in the dryer is allowed for PUL. We personally dry our PUL products on high heat and although we have had prolonged use with these products we have not noticed any break down of our PUL. Drying on high heat can keep your Happy Heiny functioning like new.
Detergents to use: We recommend Tide, Sunlight, Cheer, Era, and Clout (Costco brand) These are not made with any of the natural oily substances which leave residue on fleece.
Detergents NOT to use: Natural soaps are often made with oils. These should NOT be used. They will leave a residue on fleece causing it to repel urine. The following detergents will cause a soap build up. Do NOT use them:
Free and Clear Detergents (the #1 reason why cloth diapers will leak)
Dr. Bronners Soap
7th Generation
Bio-Kleen
Baby detergents such as Ivory Snow and Dreft
Never use fabric softener of any kind on diapers. Liquid fabric softeners and dryer sheets both leave a waxy residue on diapers which causes fleece to repel urine and decreases the absorbency of other diapers.
The use of diaper rash creams can cause repelling. For best results either place a small wash cloth on top of the fleece or use a rice paper/gerber paper liner.
Stripping Diapers: Build up refers to residue left by detergents, fabric softeners, and other substances used to clean diapers. In rare instances, baking soda will react with certain minerals in water and also cause build up. If you notice a decrease in the functionality of your diapers, build up may be the culprit.
To strip you diapers wash in hot water with NO detergent and add 2 scoops of Oxiclean Versatile Powder. You may need to do this 2-3 times, drying in between cycles.
Hemp: Your hemp product has been professionally washed and dried 1 time. It will need up to 8 more washings and dries before it is fully absorbent. When washing you hemp the first few times do NOT was it with your fleece products. Hemp has natural oils in it and the oils can coat your fleece. After your hemp has been fully primed you may wash it with all of your diapering products.
We could not make it any more simple for you to wash your diapers. FuzziBunz® were invented by a woman who HATED laundry (and still does) so these diapers are easy use and easy care!
First! FuzziBunz® are a single use diaper - meaning you using it once and then wash it. You can not take the insert out and put another one in and keep using the FuzziBunz®. This was what was described in the book "Diaper Changes" and it is horribly incorrect. Use a FuzziBunz® and wash it.
When wet, simply separate the two pieces or shake the insert out into a basket, diaper pail or one of MOE's hanging diaper bags for easy washing.
If soiled, solid poop will "plop" right off of the diaper into the toilet. No rinsing or swirling... yuck. If there are "stickies" on the fleece whatever does not shake off into the toilet will dissolve in the wash. If you just can't put it in the washer that way you can get a "mini-shower" and spray the poop off of the diaper before putting it in your washer.
Run a rinse or soak cycle first with no detergent just to dissolve any "left overs" and get much of the urine and mess out and spun out into the sewer where it belongs.
After the soak cycle run a HOT wash with the detergent of your choice. Do not over use your detergent as the full recommended amount by the manufacturer is a bit too much - however you do need enough to clean dirty diapers. 1/2 the recommended amount is sufficient and if you find you have a cleaning problem then add more detergent.
Your hot wash cycle will more than likely have a cold rinse that follows. No need to run a second rinse unless you are having a really dirty diaper problem or feel you must if it was a particularly dirty load.
You can either tumble your diapers dry on low heat or hang to dry, either way they will dry quickly and be ready to put back on your baby.
A Few Dos & Don'ts
Do wash your FuzziBunz® after each use.
Do make sure that there is a snug fit
Do make sure that you have the correct size for your baby.
Do contact the manufacturer if you have any problems
Do not use fabric softener or use pure soap products on your FuzziBunz®. [What are pure soap products? Scroll down!]
No bleach or exposure to high heat for prolonged periods of time.
Detergents we recommend for use with FuzziBunz®:
Allens Naturally is our detergent of choice, you can buy it directly from Allen's Naturally or from Mother of Eden. It's economical for the amount of loads it will wash, washes clean with no residue and will keep your diapers clean!
The Low Down on Detergents & Soaps
Pure Soap - Natural soap products such as pure glycerine soap or cleaning agents made with citrus or other oils do not work for this reason: They may clean the fibers, but a slight oily film or "soap scum" is left on the fleece. When this happens it makes it very difficult for urine to get through the layer of fleece to the absorbent core in the middle of FuzziBunz® as you know oil and water do not mix.
The result?? Either FuzziBunz® that leak or the fleece will stay wet next to the skin and not become dry as it should be.
Fixing the Problem
We have (as have others) had many theories on what is called "stripping diapers." I don't like that word. I would rather call it just plain ole upkeep and something that should be done every now and again as a preventative measure in taking care of your diapers and prolonging their life.
If you have any of the following problems this system should work for you:
*The fleece used in FuzziBunz® is a proprietary fleece designed to our specifications and needs. Our fleece is designed to absorb water quickly, dry to the touch quickly and resist residue buildup.
Solving the Problem
Get a good detergent like Allen's Naturally.
Run all of your diapers through a plain water hot wash.
Run all of your diapers through a hot wash with the full recommended amount of detergent.
If the problem is bad, repeat step three.
Run a cold rinse. If you have hard water you may want to add a water softener such as Baking Soda or Calgon Water Softener to soften your water and help release any left over detergent.
If you still see bubbles in your rinse run another cold rinse.
You can either Sun your diapers or tumble on low.
After this process (I know it is involved) you should have very clean diapers that do not smell like anything - no perfume - no urine. When the FuzziBunz® are completely dry, if you were having a buildup problem (repelling) take a nasal aspirator and put an insert into the pocket. Fill the nasal aspirator with water and put it close to the fleece and "pee" on the diaper with the aspirator. If it goes through your repelling problem is fixed. However, again, repelling should not be a problem with FuzziBunz® diapers.
Initially wash your diapers 3-4 times before using making sure to dry in between cycles. Hemp is an untreated fabric and needs to be washed a few times before use to remove the natural oils off the fabric.
Load the washer with 15 to 20 pieces (diapers or covers). Give the load plenty of room to swish around.
Add laundry detergent like Charlies Soap or Allens Naturally. If you are using a store brand make sure to stay away from free and clears, with bleach, and baby versions of detergent.
Wash the diapers on cold. Cold water helps prevent any stains from setting.
Wash the diapers on hot, without any soaps. I use a pre-wash cycle, which is shorter.
Drying
Dry the diapers one hot cycle.
If you like, you can lay the diapers outside on a rack to air out. The sun also does a good job at reducing stains.
Please note that like all cloth diapers, the Bumwear cloth diapers and the inserts SHOULD be washed before use to improve absorption capabilities. New fabrics have a special chemical finish on them that gives them that "new fabric" smell and feel. This finish is water-repellent, and must be removed by machine washing before use.
Make sure the new cloth diapers are washed several times to remove this special finish on the fabric, before using them to diaper your baby. Cloth diapers will not reach their most absorbent state until after three complete wash/dry cycles. Avoid softeners as they create waxy build up on the cloth diapers that will cause the diapers to repel water instead of absorbing it. Dynamo detergent contains some fabric softener and should therefore not be used in washing of the cloth diapers.
The following series of photos show you how easy it is to put on the Bumwear cloth diaper.
Wash once in cold water with no more than 1/4 (high efficiency machines) to 1/2 (top loading, regular machines) of the detergent's recommened amount per load.
If using Charlie's Soap use the full recommended amount on the label.
Wash once in hot (up to 120 degrees) water with no more than 1/4 (high efficiency machines) to 1/2 (top loading, regular machines) of the detergent's recommended amount per load. Optionally (and only occasionally), add 1/4 cup of bleach to this cycle.
Add an extra rinse to remove any lingering detergent in the diapers.
Tumble dry on the warm setting.
No fabric softeners.
Baby Kangas One Size Pocket Diapers - Use & Care Instructions
Snap down the rise settings if desired. Do not snap down if you require the highest rise setting.
This is showing the Baby Kangas set on the middle rise setting.
Unzip the pouch.
Insert a JamTots one-size hemp stuffer or other insert of your choice.
Zip the pouch back up.
Your diaper is ready to use!
When the diaper is wet, simple unzip the pouch and shake the insert into the diaper pail. If the diaper is soiled, shake off any solids into the toilet and then remove the insert and place both the insert and the diaper in the diaper pail.
Washing Instructions
Store in a dry diaper pail between uses, do a cold soak, a warm or hot wash with a few teaspoons of regular liquid laundry detergent followed by 2 cold rinses. Throw in dryer or hang to dry.
Do not use any fabric softeners, bleaches or whiteners.
Fitting an assortment of size ranges, the NEW Wahmies One Size Diaper sets itself apart from all others. The ease of use and sizing versatility will make you feel secure that your babies diaper is snug and comfy.
1. Make sure the rise setting works for your baby. For newborn and smaller babies, adjust the rise by snapping down the front of the diaper to the appropriate setting. Once you have adjusted the rise, you can leave it snapped down even after it is soiled, in the washer and the dryer too... no need to reset it each time. Next add an insert.
Tip: After the newborn stage, push the hooks to the neighbouring loop to put them out of the way for the next baby.
1. Choose from the two front hook settings to fit your child. Inner hooks for small babies (b), outer hooks for bigger babies(a).
2. Snugly latch the hooks through the eyelets along the back of the diaper. This may take a bit of practice, but once you have done it a few times some say it's easier than a snap or velcro diaper!
Tip: When latching and unlatching the hooks through the eyelets it will work a bit smoother if you lightly push the hook towards the diaper
1. And finally, wrap the wings around and fasten them snugly in the center front eyelets.
