Soft Structured Baby Carriers

What is a soft structured carrier (SSC)? Most SSCs are what you think of when you think of babywearing. These may also be referred to as buckle carriers because of the buckles used to secure the carrier on the parent. Most feature a thickly padded waistband and shoulder straps for a comfortable and secure fit. SSCs are ergonomic and the most comfortable for a wearer with back problems or sensitivities.

For forward facing (where baby faces outwards toward their surroundings) you may like the Lillebaby and Moby Comfort carriers. The Lillebaby Original, AirFlow, All Season, Organic and Embossed carriers all have the option to wear the baby forward facing. Tula carriers are not recommended to be worn forward facing.

Most SSCs can be worn on the front or back with baby snuggled securely facing the wearer.

For infant and newborn babywearing you may like the Tula Free-To-Grow and most of the Lillebaby carriers (with the exception of the Lillebaby Essentials and Toddler carriers). Most other carriers are safe to use starting at around 15lbs or when your child has better neck control.

For warmer climates, the Lillebaby Airflow and All Seasons may be preferred since they have a mesh layer that is more breathable.
